A well-maintained artisanal candle releases its fragrance better, burns longer, and stays beautiful until the end. Here are the essential gestures recommended by Maison Bayu.
The first burn matters
On the first use, let the candle burn until the entire wax surface becomes liquid. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn afterwards.
Trim the wick before every lighting
A wick that is too long produces smoke and an unstable flame. Trim it to about 5 mm before each use for a clean, controlled flame.
Avoid tunneling
If a well forms in the center, let it burn longer during the next sessions, or gently recenter the wick when the wax is still soft (never while the candle is lit).
Ideal session length
Plan for about 2 to 3 hours per session. Then extinguish, let cool, and recenter and trim the wick before the next use.
Safety basics
- Never leave a candle unattended
- Keep it away from drafts, fabrics, and children
- Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface
- Stop using it when about 1 cm of wax remains
